When Bev Darby decided to give one of her bedrooms a makeover, it was this quilt that brought the room to life. Although the appliqué is time consuming, the finished piece is well worth the effort. Bev stitched the fusible-web appliqué by machine, but you could blanket-stitch it by hand if you prefer. |

When Susan Rowe found this striking feature print, she knew it shouldn’t be cut into small pieces, so she designed a simple but effective quilt that highlights the fabric perfectly. Find an interesting print, then choose tone-on-tone prints in matching colours for the pieced sashings to bring it all together. |

The jewel-coloured prints in Jennifer Beer’s quilt evoke imagery of precious stones and give it a rich, exotic look. The design may seem complicated, but in fact, it breaks down to four units that make one block; 24 blocks make the quilt centre. The crisscross effect in the second border is a clever and simple technique.
